Your Learner Has IXL.
Now What?
FOR PARENTS
Your learner has the data. ETM helps you know what to do with it. Dr. Sherri identifies the foundational skills that matter, guides purposeful weekly practice, and monitors progress so your learner can keep moving forward.
WHAT YOU SEE
The Current Struggle
"My learner is struggling with fractions."
More practice isn't always the answer.
When a learner struggles with a grade-level skill, the problem may have started much earlier. Practicing the same difficult skill again and again doesn't necessarily repair the foundation underneath it.
The right practice starts with the right starting point.
WHAT MAY BE UNDERNEATH
The Foundational Gap
Multiplication facts, division, number sense, or understanding equivalent fractions may be getting in the way.
WHAT ACTUALLY HELPS
The Right Starting Point
Find the foundational gap first. Then practice the right skills in the right order.

An Educator Behind the Data.
WHAT GUIDED LEARNING PROVIDES
Technology can provide valuable data and practice. ETM provides the instructional judgment to determine what that information means, what should come next, and when a learner needs something different.
Start With What Matters
Focus on the foundational skills most likely to unlock the learning that comes next.
Know What to Work On

Weekly recommendations take the guesswork out of choosing skills and make independent practice purposeful.
Know If It's Working

Dr. Sherri monitors progress to see whether skills are strengthening or the plan needs to change.
Progress Monitoring
Grow With the Learner

Practice priorities change as skills develop, new needs appear, and your learner is ready to move forward.
Ongoing Adjustments
Stay in the Loop

Receive a monthly update on progress, current priorities, and what ETM is watching next.
Know When Practice
Isn't Enough

If independent practice isn't enough, ETM identifies when direct instruction may be the better next step.
HOW IT WORKS
Guided Learning turns academic information into an intentional cycle of practice, monitoring, and adjustment without automatically adding another tutoring appointment.
Understand the Learner
ETM reviews available diagnostic information, academic history, current concerns, and your learner's needs to understand what the data is actually telling us.
Look Beyond the Score
A diagnostic score tells us where a learner is performing. Educational expertise helps us ask why and determine what information matters next.
Already Have IXL?
Perfect. Let's make it more purposeful.
If your learner has IXL through school, homeschool, or a family account, you don't necessarily need another platform.
ETM works with available diagnostic and progress information to help determine which foundational skills deserve attention and in what order.
This isn't about doing more IXL. It's about using the information and practice more intentionally.
Use the access you already have. Add the instructional guidance you don't.
WHATEVER YOUR STARTING POINT
Already Have IXL? Great. Don't? That's Okay Too.
Don't Have IXL?
We've got you.
ETM has a limited number of learning-platform seats available for eligible Guided Learning members.
We'll determine the appropriate setup during onboarding so your learner can begin targeted practice without your family having to purchase or figure out another system on your own.
The platform is the tool. ETM provides the direction.
ETM-provided learning-platform access is available only to active Guided Learning members while seats are available and is subject to applicable platform terms.

NOT SURE WHERE THE LEARNING BREAKS DOWN?
Start With Clarity.
Guided practice works best when we know what we're targeting.
The ETM Academic Clarity Assessment™ looks beyond a single diagnostic score to identify what your learner understands, where gaps appear, and which foundational skills may be interfering with current learning.
If we don't yet have enough information to create an effective Guided Learning plan, this is where we'll begin.

Guided Learning May Be a Great Fit If...
✓ Your learner can work somewhat independently but needs direction.
✓ You have diagnostic or academic data but aren't sure what to do with it.
✓ Your learner needs consistent foundational skill practice between instruction.
✓ You want professional monitoring without automatically adding another weekly tutoring appointment.
✓ Your goal is increasing skill, confidence, and learner independence.
IS GUIDED LEARNING THE RIGHT FIT?
Built for Learners Who Need Direction, Not Dependence.
Sometimes a Learner Needs More.
Guided Learning is not a replacement for direct instruction when a learner doesn't understand the underlying concept.
If ETM sees that independent practice isn't enough, we'll tell you. We may recommend targeted instruction, additional assessment, or another ETM pathway based on what the learner needs.
The goal isn't to keep a learner in Guided Learning forever. The goal is mastery.
Guided Learning sits between completely independent practice and ongoing 1:1 tutoring. It's designed for learners who can do meaningful work independently when someone qualified helps determine what that work should be.
THE EDUCATOR BEHIND THE PLAN
Guided by an Educator, Not an Algorithm.
I'm Dr. Sherri Rochel, founder of Education That Matters and creator of the ETM Method™.
I built ETM around a simple belief: learners deserve to be understood before they're expected to succeed.
Technology can give us useful information and meaningful practice. But it takes educational expertise to determine what that information means, which skills matter most, and when a learner needs something different.
Guided Learning lets me provide that professional direction without automatically adding another hour of tutoring to your learner's week.
We identify what matters. Practice intentionally. Monitor what happens. Adjust when the learner tells us it's time.

Guided Learning FAQ
No. Guided Learning is designed for learners who can complete meaningful independent practice with professional guidance and monitoring. If progress shows that your learner needs direct instruction, ETM will recommend the appropriate next step.
Not always. If we already have enough information to identify your learner's needs and establish appropriate priorities, we can begin from there. If we need a clearer picture of where learning is breaking down, ETM will recommend an Academic Clarity Assessment™ before building the practice plan.
It depends on the learner. ETM does not assign arbitrary amounts of work just to keep learners busy. Practice recommendations are based on individual needs, current priorities, and progress. The goal is purposeful practice that builds mastery and independence.
Absolutely. Because each learner receives individualized priorities, monitoring, and plan adjustments, each learner needs their own Guided Learning membership.
Yes. Guided Learning is a $49 monthly membership with no long-term contract. You can cancel future renewals at any time through your ETM account.
